The Mandala Temple

Temple 72, Mandara-ji

Mandara-ji is temple No. 72 on the Shikoku pilgrimage. This temple has a strong association with Kobo Daishi as the ancestral temple of the Saeki clan, of which Kobo Daishi was a member. He remodeled the temple after a temple in China on his return from that country, and it’s said that he also planted the pine tree that still grows here.
