Imabari

Castle town on the Seto Inland Sea. Starting point for the Shimanami Kaido on the Shikoku side.

Imabari

Imabari is a city on the Seto Inland Sea known globally for its shipbuilding and more recently, its high-quality towels. Since the people are always busy, they’ve developed various ways of cooking chicken quickly, making Imabari one of Japan’s prime places for yakitori.

The islands off Imabari were once home to the Murakami Kaizoku, maritime clans who controlled the Inland Sea in the Warring States period.

Imabari is also the starting point for the Shimanami Kaido on the Shikoku side.
