Dōgo Arcade
Dōgo Arcade is a covered shopping street running from Dōgo Station to Dōgo Onsen Honkan. It’s home to many old and new shops offering souvenirs, clothes and local products. There’s also a Ghibli Studios shop selling Miyazaki Hayao goods.
Besides shops, there are several good restaurants and cafés.
The arcade is always busy with visitors, many wearing the traditional yukata provided by the local hotels for visiting the onsen. The arcade is also known as “Hai Kara Dōri” or “High Collar Street”. In the Meiji period when western fashion was all the rage, wearing a high collar was a statement that the wearer was in tune with international chic. In Dōgo Arcade, you can still feel this yearning after faraway sophistication typical of a smart provincial town.
