Overview
Mima City in Tokushima Prefecture has long been a producer of indigo, and distributes high-quality natural indigo dye called Sukumo throughout the country. Furthermore, Wakimachi in Mima City is lined with houses with Udatsu accents built by these indigo merchants, making it an area where you can experience the prosperity of that time. On this tour, you will listen to artisans who preserve traditional craft techniques while making a lampshade using the bamboo framework of a Japanese umbrella and a placemat dyed with Tokushima-made genuine indigo dye. Both the lampshade and the placemat can be taken home on the same day, so it is also anticipated that you will be able to use them during meals or overnight stays after the experience. This tour is a valuable experiential tour that allows travelers to experience traditional crafts made from plant resources that have been passionately preserved by artisans, while also contributing to a sustainable local industry through tourist consumption.
