Seto Inland Sea Museum of History and Folklore
The Seto Inland Sea Museum of History and Folklore is an impressive building located high above the Inland Sea on the Goshikidai plateau. Constructed of natural stone taken from the mountain, it features an imposing tower designed to recall a pirate castle, and exhibition rooms on several levels arranged around the hillside. A viewing deck on the roof offers a stunning view of the Inland Sea, designated as the Setonaikai National Park.
The exhibits include numerous real ships of considerable size, as well as model ships and a whale skeleton. The economic life of the area is represented by displays of maritime and agricultural tools while the culture life is represented through art works and festival paraphernalia.
This charming museum brings the history and nature of the Inland Sea into clear focus in a compact package.
