Sailing to Shikoku on the Orange Ferry
You can get to Shikoku from Honshu, by bridge, by train and by plane. But before these routes were available, there were ships. And by ship is a very nice way to go. The Orange Ferry from Osaka is an especially comfortable way to get to Shikoku. Taking a cabin saves you the cost of a night’s accommodation, and offers a relaxing way to reach your destination.
Your journey to Shikoku starts at the ferry terminal in Osaka’s Nanko Port.
Embarkation begins at 8:00 pm for sailing at 10:00 pm. You can board as a foot passenger, with a bicycle, or with a car.
The interior of the boat is nothing if not glamorous. It feels a bit like Vegas.
When you first get on board, visiting the fully appointed bath might be a good option.
“Fully appointed” means there’s a sauna and plunge bath too.
The grand staircase provides access to the main decks.
There are many places to sit and relax.
Of course you can eat on the ferry. The meals are carefully prepared, healthy and tasty.
There’s something to suit every taste. The dining area offers a wonderful view of Kobe at night.
You can enjoy a wide range of fine shochu and other drinks.
An hour after leaving port, the ship passes under the Akashi Straits Bridge. Many passengers come on deck to see this fine sight.
A twin room makes for a very comfortable night.
At 6:00 am, the ferry docks at Toyo Port in Ehime, right next to Mt. Ishizuchi, the highest mountain in western Japan. You’re welcome to stay onboard until 8:00 am, having a leisurely lie-in and breakfast.
Welcome to Shikoku!
